I'm way behind on the updates now! I added some pictures to the permanent layout section, but I'm only up to April 1! More to come when I find some more time. Enjoy

Well, it only took me a month, but the Essex Train Show 2008 pictures are now up. Look in the Gallery to find them.

Keep your eyes peeled for more permanent layout pictures in the future, as we have started working again, now that the Essex show is done for another year.

February 16th, 2008

The 2008 Essex Train Show is coming up on February 23 and 24 from 10am until 4pm at Essex District High School. Come on out to visit us at the show and say hi. We look forward to seeing you there. We will have some of our modules setup and running trains throughout the show. We will be doing clinics on building kits, building fast-tracks switches and many other things during the show. We will also have a table of items for sale to raise money for the club.

I've added some pictures of some of the updates we did to the modules to get them ready for the show. They can be found in the Modular Layout section.

I also added some pictures of the first open test running on the new layout. We tested with big engines, long passenger cars and just plain long trains. Have a look in the New Layout photos section.

Happy New Year Everyone!

It has been a while since the last update, but alot has been accomplished in that time! The temporary connection track is in place as well as the temporary bridge tracks. The cement plant track work is also moving along very well now that both diamonds are finished.

On Saturday, January 12, 2008 the first train was run on phase 1 of the WMRC! Lead by Chessie GP38 4829 and pulling about a dozen coal cars. Some autoracks and a well car joined in for the second run and forced the use of WMRC GP38-2 100 as a helper up the grade. CP SD90MAC-H II 9302 joined the head end to add a little sound to the mix later on. Check the New Layout section of all the pictures.

Construction on the new layout will be taking a break so we can get ready for the Essex Train show at the end of February. Watch for pictures of us fixing up some of the modules in preparation for the show.

I've added some more pictures of the progress over the past week. Some more track went down, some more spline went down and Phase I of the benchwork was finished. Yes, you read that right, Phase I of the benchwork is done. Phase I is the stagging yard leg, the south wall and the short mountain leg (leg 5).

Now it is time to get the risers, spline and track work for Phase I finshed too! We hope to have the Phase I main line track running before Christmas.

To all members, remember the next business meeting is in two weeks, on Tuesday, November 6, 2007.

Just a quick update today. I've added some more progress pictures to the New Layout section. Some of the scenery base has been started under the main bridge and the base colours have started going on around the small bridge next to the cement plant. The spline work for the mainline is done along the south wall and starts around the corner now. Some track work along the helper grade has also been started.

To all the Canadians out there, Happy Thanks Giving!
and to our American friends, Happy Columbus Day.

I added some more photos of the new layout's progress. The 3 track modular specifications are also on the site in the 'Our Layouts' section.

To all Ontario Residents: Remember to go and VOTE on Wednesday, October 10!!

Another month has come and gone and it is about time I made an update to the site! I've added some progress shots of the New Layout from the past month and plan to add some of the information about how to build our three main line modules in the near future. I also plan to add a section detailing the spline sub-road bed we have been using on the new layout. Spline is a learning experience for us right now, but we seem to be doing alright with it.

September 3rd, 2007

Well, the summer is over and it's time to get back to work and or school for most of us. September also marks the beginning of a new year for the club. While progress has been slow over the summer months, progress was made. I've updated the New Layout page showing some of the stuff we worked on over the summer.

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007 is our first meeting of the new fiscal year. Please do your best to attend. You can meet the new president, Geoff E. and get caught up on all the summer's progress as well as what is next on the agenda.

The other major announcement right now has to do with switches for the new layout. Originally we ordered switches from walthers, but due to walthers in ability to fill our order, or meet general demand for their switches, we were forced to look elsewhere or sit idle waiting. After several discussions over the summer, the track gang decided to go with the Fast-Tracks System and hand lay our switches. This route was chosen for several reasons including look, reliability, ease of building and cost savings. For more information on the Fast Tracks system, please visit our Fast Tracks re-seller site.

The nice weather continues, but so does the progress on the new layout. The south wall benchwork is nearing completion and the design crews are busy laying out industrial track designs. The Pulp and Paper mill, Limestone Quary and Cement Plant plans are done, and many others are nearing completion.

The Cement Plant track plan was laid out so we can begin cutting the sub road bed. We should be able to start laying track soon!

I've added pictures of some of the track plans to the New Layout page if you're interested in seeing the grand design!

Happy Canada Day and Independence Day!

The nice weather has claimed some of our crew, so not much work was accomplished on the layout this week. We did get the loop tracks glued down around the staging yards and feeder wires soldered on.

I've added a link to Ian's layout progress pictures in the New Layout section and a new gallery of photos.

June 21st, 2007

Alot of progress was made on the permanent layout on tuesday night.

The track crews have the road bed in place from the bridge all the way around to the other side of the first leg. The east staging yard is ready to have track layed down.

The bench work gang has the south west corner ready for sub road bed and began on the south wall.

The design group presented a track plan with basic industry size and type locations. Actual industry track plans will follow in the fall. They also proposed enlarging the 'coal' branch to include hidden staging and a wye. These changes will be represented on the next track diagram in the near future.

As for the Web site - I've added another section to the gallery with photos highlighting some of the modules and their details.

Welcome to the NEW Windsor Modular Railroad Club web site!

The club is currently going through some major changes by moving away from our modular roots to build a whole new permenent layout, so a re-vamped web site seemed like a good idea.

Please use the Contact Us Email form to send you comments and suggestions for further improvments.

There is still a lot of work to be done here, but I am very excited to launch the new site and hear your feedback.
